What is Scribo?

Scribo is a web-based application that allows users to send electronic data of any kind to anyone in the world... securely. Users upload electronic data and it is immediately encrypted.

  • The recipient receives an email saying the data, maybe a signature or contract for instance, is waiting at the Scribo platform.
  • The recipient logs in to Scribo to retrieve the information using a secret, unique key that is generated by Scribo.
  • The recipient downloads the information from Scribo and it is shredded on Scribo’s end either immediately or within five days, based on the user’s preference.
  • The sender can check and print a “Certified Status Receipt” at any time during the process.

What can I securely transmit via Scribo?

You can use Scribo for any electronic data that needs to be secure. Such as:

  • Electronic signatures
  • Sensitive messages or files, like medical and financial records, closing documents, architectural blueprints, or legal and government documents
  • Copyright material or graphic designs
  • Tax documents
  • Accounting records
  • Invoices or payments
  • Photos, videos or advertising information
  • Anything too large to transmit on your own

Why should I use Scribo?

  • You have to send a sensitive message, file or other data and:
    • email or texting do not provide enough security;
    • snail-mail or an in-person meeting is impractical;
    • you are environmentally conscious and would prefer to go paperless;
  • You need to share a file, like a drawing or video and it is too big to email;
  • You need to share a file, like an x-ray or contract, and it is too sensitive to email;
  • You need a document signed and an electronic signature is the most expedient choice; or
  • You need a way to send an invoice and collect payment securely.

How do I access Scribo?

Anyone with is a browser or mobile device can use Scribo. Scribo is a stand-alone, web-based application and will not interfere with other applications.

Can I cancel a transmission after I send it?

Yes, you can cancel a transmission after you send it, as long as none of the recipients have opened it. Cancel the transmission by clicking on the delete (trashcan icon) in your sent dashboard.

Do you have a free version or free trial?

Yes. Scribo’s Individual and Pro plans offer 14-day trials so you can best plan for your needs. There is a free, limited plan that is not for commercial use.

Do the people I send files to have to pay?

No. They just need to create an account to access what you have sent.

Do you have plans for individuals?

Yes. We have plans individuals, small businesses, and large businesses that need integrations and/or white-labeling options. Check out our plans here.

What type of companies are best for Scribo?

All companies! If you need to send a secure file, Scribo is right for you. Financial, legal, health, architectural, government, graphic design, advertising and video companies have all used Scribo with great success.

If I upgrade to Individual, Pro or Enterprise, can I go back to free again?

Yes, you can revert to the free plan at any time.

Are there contracts or commitments?

Scribo does not have contracts. After your paid plan ends you will be asked to pick a new plan for the coming year. If you’ve chosen a paid plan, you will be billed monthly and you can cancel online at any time online. If you cancel before the end of a billing period, you will retain access until the end of billing period.

What sets Scribo’s privacy standards apart?

Scribo was built with our users’ privacy and security in mind. We don’t use tracking software on the Scribo platform, and Scribo will not access your contacts. Nobody (not even Scribo) can view an encrypted file that was uploaded by the user.

Scribo uses the latest encryption techniques and algorithms to secure data, which includes the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with a 256-bit key. This is the same encryption standard used by governments and banks to protect confidential data. The 256- bit key is derived from your secret password using a function that adheres to RSA Laboratories' Public Key Cryptography Standards (PKCS). Your secret password and encryption key are never stored and your encrypted file and filename are secure and can only be accessed by using your selected password.

Scribo is built with certified approval from HIPAA, SOX, SOC2, Type 2, AES 256 and GDPR, and is created, hosted and maintained in the US.

Other websites and services use only some of these certifications or none at all. We are committed to protecting your data with the best available technology.

SECURITY and PRIVACY

Tell me about your privacy – what sets your privacy standards apart?

Scribo was built with our users privacy and security in mind. We don’t use tracking software on the Scribo our platform, and Scribo will not access your contacts, ever. Scribo will not try to automatically post to social media sites.

The files are securely transmitted to our servers and securely stored with high-grade bank level encryption (AES 256- bit). Other websites and services use one or the other, or neither at all. We are committed to protecting your files with the best available technology.

Where is my file after it has been downloaded?

Gone, shredded, and deleted. The file or message is removed from the Internet after it’s downloaded by the recipient. You have the option of having your file shredded immediately or within five days.

Who can see the contents of my file or message?

No one except you and your recipient. The file is shredded after your recipient downloads it or after 5 days whether it has been seen or not. Nobody (not even Scribo) can open and view an encrypted file that was uploaded by the user.

So you don't store my files after the recipient downloads?

Correct. We do not store any files after the recipient downloads them. If the sender has not chosen “Instant Shred” the file will remain in its encrypted form for 5 days.

Are my payments and payment details safe?

Yes! Scribo does not store any of your credit card details or PayPal logins.

What is HIPAA compliance?

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, commonly known as HIPAA, is a series of regulatory standards that outline the lawful use and disclosure of protected health information (PHI). HIPAA compliance is regulated by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and enforced by the Office for Civil Rights (OCR).

Scribo is HIPAA compliant and can provide proof of compliance business agreement when requested. .

What is SOX compliance?

SOX stands for the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and was implemented for all businesses on July 30, 2002 by the US Congress. The legislation was designed to impose regulations on a company’s internal processes when dealing with their financial reporting. Failure to comply with this regulation can lead to millions of dollars in fines and can even lead to criminal convictions.

What is SOC 2 Compliance?

SOC 2 compliance is a component of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA)’s Service Organization Control reporting platform. Its goal is to ensure that systems are set up so they assure security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy of customer data. SOC 2 is both a technical audit and a requirement that comprehensive information security policies and procedures be written and followed.

What is GDPR compliance?

GDPR is a regulation that requires businesses to protect the personal data and privacy of EU citizens for transactions that occur within EU member states. Non-compliance could cost companies dearly.
